This Giving Tuesday, your donation 🎁 to the Writers Guild Initiative will be doubled!
A generous donor has agreed to match all gifts up to $2,500. Now, through the end of December, you have the opportunity to double your impact and help WGI raise $5,000 for our writing workshops!
Since 2008, WGI has delivered 300 writing workshops and engaged more than 2,000 emerging writers. Work which wouldn’t be possible without you – our growing community of donors and friends.
This is a deeply concerning time for many of the communities we serve — and WGI is working harder than ever to make sure their voices aren’t silenced, and tailoring our workshop model to best meet their needs and concerns.
➡️ Let’s look at how WGI pivoted our work in 2025 to meet the moment:
✨ WGI grew our work with immigrant communities across NYC — mentors are assisting immigrants as they write their narratives to apply for asylum. Our first participant was recently granted asylum, a life-saving development.
✨ WGI’s workshops with survivors of human trafficking had a drop-off in attendance due to participants’ fears of being targeted if they left home. We have now shifted to a virtual model that prioritizes safety.
✨ In partnership with the American Library Association, WGI provided a 4-session workshop series to 30 librarians from across the country who are facing book bans and censorship.
✨ WGI wrapped up our first year-long advanced writing workshop, serving 40 residents at the Pendleton Correctional Facility in Indiana, a state with limited resources for the incarcerated.
✨ As the federal government cuts funding for long COVID research, WGI continues to create an accessible space for that community, providing global workshops that have served 250 people living with long COVID – enabling them to connect and share their stories.
We don’t know yet what 2026 will bring – but with your help, we’ll be ready.
