Justice holding a sword and scales calling out

what we do

The Writers Guild Initiative brings the craft of writing to communities whose voices and stories are underrepresented in the popular discourse. Our workshops are led by volunteer mentors: professional film and television writers who connect with populations of new writers to encourage self-expression through storytelling.

For over a decade, WGI has partnered with leading organizations to provide opportunities for their populations, including wounded veterans, family caregivers of veterans, immigrant youth, LGBTQ asylum seekers, and people living with chronic illness, to name a few. We most recently completed workshops with nurses on the front lines of the COVID crisis, through a partnership with the New York Professional Nurses Union.
