The 2019 WGI spring gala “You Need to Hear This” rocked the house at Tribeca 360 on March 11th with a powerhouse lineup of pieces from the WGI workshops.

A star-studded cast featuring Brooke Adams, Dominique Fishback, James McDaniel, Ezra Miller, Gayle Rankin, and Tony Shalhoub brought the work to life in a hard-hitting performance directed by Jonathan Bernstein.

The emotional highlight of the night was the introduction of the writers whose work appeared in the program: Carolyn Meyer, Captain Brian M. Bergson, Iman Ahmed, Cheryl Naill, Mary Kerr, Sharon Grassi and Sharon Rubino-West came from all over the country to see their work and be a part of the event.

Earlier in the evening, prominent TV and film writer Liz Tuccillo talked about her involvement as a workshop mentor. Also featured was poet Deya Aldana, who spoke movingly about her life as a DACA recipient and workshop participant. Her poem “Belonging” concluded the program.

The evening was moderated by WGI President Richard Dresser, who produced it along with Vice President Willie Reale.
